Catherine's Traditional Yuletide Carol Concert Honours Community Volunteers

Her Royal Highness has organised her yearly Christmas carol concert at the iconic London venue, with guests including members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The sizable congregation will enjoy a selection of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from performers including Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Centred Around Compassion and Love

The theme of the event, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, a support fund, to help households where there is a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," Her Royal Highness stated in a letter ahead of the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own steady comeback to official duties subsequent to her illness and medical care, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Performance and Potential

Attendees entering the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers aided by the Future Talent charity, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to increase availability of music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been supported by the charity, with grants helping towards musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in the evening's event.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now a student at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Sisterly Duo

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will feature young Saphia Turner, nine, honouree of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for local food charities.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.

The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a nautical singing ensemble, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
